Chanson du Soir is comprised of soprano Chelsea Camille and classical guitarist David Isaacs. Established in 2005, the Southern California natives, have quickly garnered national recognition as a premier guitar and voice duo by being featured artists on concert series throughout the United States , by teaching Masterclasses, and by adjudicating competitions. While touring through California, Oregon, Washington, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, Chanson du Soir have had the honor of playing for the Jefferson Classical Guitar Society (Ashland, OR), the American Guitar Society at California State University, Northridge, the Dayton Classical Guitar Society/University of Dayton (Dayton, OH), the Ventura County Classical Guitar Society, the Long Beach Classical Guitar Society, Oregon State University, Marylhurst University, and California State University, Fullerton. In February 2007, Chanson du Soir recorded their debut studio CD, Melancholie et Espoir and released it in April on Abet Music. In the process of sharing their music, they have been featured on NBC affiliate KHQ in Spokane, KBPX in Spokane, KIRN in LA, “La Guitarra” on KCBX in San Luis Obispo, CA, “The Intimate Guitar” on Dayton Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Radio, and WGTE FM91 in Northwest Ohio. In addition to presenting published works, Chanson du Soir are actively involved in having new works written for their unique ensemble. The first fruits of that labor have been published by Clear Note Publications in the form of the haunting "Music, When Soft Voice Die" and the playful "Fable" by the magnificent new composer, Brian Christopher Madigan. Presently, Chanson du Soir are organizing their next tour (a constant process, really) and are refining the works which will be featured on their next CD.
Ever since she began to form her own thoughts, Chelsea Camille always adored the arts of storytelling and entertainment. Back then it merely involved keeping her family in stitches, whereas now she is comfortable with audiences much larger in size. Chelsea began her official study of theatre at Long Beach City College, becoming greatly involved in theatre, singing, dance, and the speech team. Some semesters found her literally jogging from one rehearsal to the next. While there she received the Viking Award for her efforts, the highest award granted by the school. She completed her Bachelor’s in Acting at California State University, Fullerton, graduating with honors. While at CSU Fullerton she also honed her skills as a seamstress, where she is currently helping to create magnificent costumes. True to her nature of being a jack of all trades, she is presently the professional soprano soloist at Belmont Heights United Methodist Church in Long Beach, the creator of her own line of jewelry, substitute teaches for two local districts, can be found acting on many local stages, and singing all over the country in Chanson du Soir.
David Isaacs, has been playing guitar since 1988 and has studied Classical Guitar since 1995. He has performed throughout the US and Greece as a soloist, in a guitar duet, in a guitar and voice duet, and as part of the California State University, Fullerton Guitar Orchestra. In October of 2006, David was signed to Eroica Classical Recordings and in November of 2006 released his debut studio recorded solo classical guitar CD, Structures. This CD has been featured on KIRN in Los Angeles, “The Intimate Guitar” on Dayton Public Radio in Dayton Ohio, on Wisconsin Public Radio, and on WGTE FM91 in Northwest Ohio. Ken Keaton wrote in The American Record Guide: “Isaacs plays with sensitivity and technical finish and is more emotionally committed to the music and its images than many far more famous players.” David earned his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Classical Guitar Performance at California State University, Fullerton under the tutelage of David Grimes and has performed for 17 Masterclasses by internationally renowned artists. Now residing in Long Beach, David runs the Long Beach Classical Guitar Society, Long Beach Classical Guitar Academy, and Southern California Classical Guitar Workshop with his co-founding partner Michael Nigro; writes sheet music reviews for Soundboard; judges for guitar festivals and competitions; and teaches at Cerritos College, Morey’s Music, International Music School, Oakwood Academy, Masterclasses and at his home studio.
Chanson du Soir's current program spans the centuries from the Renaissance to the 20th Century while traversing four languages. This intense set includes: Renaissance fare from light to haunting by John Dowland, a couple of sweet songs from the plays of Shakespeare, several poignant verses of The Divan of Moses Ibn Ezra by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, a delightful trio of songs from Simone Mayer's obscure opera Adelasia ed Aleramo set by 19th century guitar virtuoso Mauro Giuliani, the entrancing "Bachianus Brasileiras No. 5" arranged by Heitor Villa-Lobos, a delicious art song by Ernesto Codero, and music dedicated to Chanson du Soir by masterful new composer, Brian Madigan.
